Since the Year of Polygamy podcast has been in existence, many of you have reached out asking how you can help remedy the lingering challenges Mormon polygamy creates in some communities. We appreciate your support and your willingness to help!
Because of your generous support, we were able to complete our first (amazingly successful) service project for individuals affected by these issues.
On October 24, 2015 over 75 volunteers arrived in the Twin Cities of Colorado City, AZ and Hildale, UT to restore homes that have been affected since Warren Jeffs took over leadership of the FLDS church.
Due to your generous support, we were able to repair three homes in the city. One home received all new windows and 1,700 square feet of engineered hardwood flooring. Another home received 700 square feet of new tile. The third home belongs to the Safety Net of Utah and is a half-way house for those displaced or transitioning from the chaos in the community. The Safety Net home received a new roof, new interior paint, cleaned walls and carpet, fixed bikes, new shelving, and more. Our volunteers traveled to the towns on their own dime and worked tirelessly all weekend to make this an event a success. Please view the slideshow below for more information:
Want to be involved?
The first step is education! Please listen to the episodes here in order to understand the issues facing this community.
The need is overwhelming and the efforts will be ongoing. We will be returning in March or April and will be looking for additional volunteers in the coming months. For now, you can help by donating below.
Donations are tax-deductible and a foundation has been set up for the podcast to collect your support. (Information for your taxes are below.) Please consider a donation that will go directly to new tile, paint, cleaner, and other supplies on our project list. 100% of your donations will go towards these efforts.
